Maybe they make us want to look or act a certain way. Maybe they make us want to have a particular job or live in a specific city. Maybe they give us a bit of our personality. There are so many things we pull from these fictional characters as readers and each of those things merge together and start to form little pieces of our building blocks. These are the characters that build us. For me this was reading Harry Potter in the first grade and meeting Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley. This was attaching to the Percy Jackson series at the same time and loving Annabeth Chase. It was seeing Iron Man when I was eleven years old and meeting Tony Stark. It was Lyra Belacqua in the His Dark Materials trilogy, Leia Organa in Star Wars, James Logan in X-men, and Tris Prior in Divergent. Each of these characters came into my life when I was still building myself into who I was and I subconsciously took bits and pieces of them into my soul as I grew up. It's something we all do. And then we do just that . . . I love coaching my girls, I love being around this sport and I genuinely believe coaching and the sport of volleyball is the thing I am best at — even better than all the fandom, nerdy things that I fill my life with. Besides the sports and the fictional universes, there isn’t much to share about me. I live on the East coast now but I was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Texas. My parents and younger brother are all still down there so I go back and visit a good amount, but my life is here in this amazing city. When it comes to which fictional worlds I love/what fandoms I would say I am a part of, the list could go on and on and on and on and (you guessed it) on. But that seems a little superfluous. I will hit the big ones, though. I love all things Marvel (X-Men and Iron Man are my favorite heroes of all time), Star Wars (Clone Wars is everything to me), the Maasiverse, the Marauders (I would say HP, but I live on ao3 with that fandom these days), Percy Jackson (yes, I did have to wait that year after Mark of Athena), and the Grishaverse (Six of Crows is something that I hold near and dear to my heart). Again, these are not all of the fandoms I am in, but they are a solid chunk of them. stand out But this site isn’t just about fandoms. I mean, Hell, the site is called Special Interests for a reason. (Picking up on the neurospiciness of our household, there?) ‘Special interests’ are intense, zeroed-in focuses — not always limited to groups within fandom.
